History of the Slow Food Movement
In 1986, McDonald's opened in Rome's Piazza di Spagna. For Dr. Carlo Petrini and a group of
friends interested in gastronomy, it was time to act. Their concerted protest took the shape of a 'Slow Food' movement. Slowly
(of course!) but surely since then, Slow Food has been sweeping the globe, and now boasts 85,000 members in 50 countries,
organized into more than 700 local groups!
