Maria Gyory, a second grade teacher at North Beach Elementary, had a wonderful Valentine’s Day at the garden! Instead of her usual candy and doughtnuts party, Maria had a planting day with her students and their parents.

She also had a Farmer’s Market with the garden’s produce. Students sold little bags with herbs from the garden and they had a silent auction with the garden’s cauliflower and cabbages. Maria and her students got a bid for twenty dollars for their cauliflower and for their cabbages: $20, $10 and $5!

What a great way to incorporate the garden into other school activities. Thank you, Maria, for sharing your story. Visit Maria’s website for more pictures of North Beach Elementary’s garden activities. |
